Happy new year! I know I’m so late, but I truly hope that you all are off to a good start and working towards achieving your goals.
I feel like I say this in every outfit of the day post, but this all black outfit is one of my best “Outfit of the Day” looks that I’ve put together. Putting it together and shooting it felt so effortless.
I usually book a shoot every 2 to 3 weeks with my photographer, Blair. Most times, I have a general idea of what I want to wear. Before this shoot, though, I had no idea what I wanted to wear. When Blair asked me the color scheme the day before, it was the first time I actually thought of what I would wear. I looked in my closet and remembered that I bought a tulle skirt from Boohoo almost a year ago and I’d been waiting to wear it. I immediately thought to pair it with a black bodysuit I bought a few weeks ago, from Boohoo as well. (I’m into bodysuits now.)
I almost wore by basic black pumps, but I decided to go with a pair of black caged heels to give the outfit a little more character. I got mine from Oh Sheque, an online shoe store based in The Bahamas, but a similar pair can be purchased from Go Jane.
As for my hair. I’d done a twist out a few days prior and my hair was starting to look a little rough in the back. I know a lot of naturals are concerned about always having definition, and I used to be like that. Now, I’m not worried at all. I knew that I could always put my hair in a forward puff, which I often refer to as my crown. But, this time I decided to wear a hat that purchased from Forever 21 years ago and never wore because I couldn’t figure out how to fit it over my natural hair. (It’s too small to fit over my head in general.) I simply pinned my hair to the front and pinned the hat on using the tag that was inside. It wasn’t sturdy and you can see me holding it down several times in the YouTube video for this outfit below.
I’m learning to go with the flow more often when creating my looks because it makes for the best photos. I’m also working on trying to appear a little less “posey” in my shoots, but I couldn’t resist the Sade-esque pose where I appear be hugging myself. If I ever make an album, that’s going to be my cover.
